Go to Hell! Kyle Sandilands and Susie O’Brien edition
Today was not a great day in the media for Australian fatties. I logged on this morning to find this little gem by Susie O’Brien waiting for me in amongst my Google alerts and tonight, my news alerts bring vile Kyle to my attention. So Susie thinks fat models and the availability of larger sized clothing and the Fat Acceptance ‘manifesto’ too for that matter (but she doesn’t refer to it as FA) is just encouraging people to get fat and stay fat. Kyle thinks Magda Szubanski (who I blogged about here) should be put in a concentration camp in order to have her get skinny, as opposed to what she is after already losing 35kg or so. The fact that Magda’s family are Polish and would have had family involved in the atrocities of World War 2 didn’t bother Kyle one bit. But then not much does. Susie O’Brien on the other hand just seems resentful. She comes across as resenting the fact that she goes to the gym rather than spending time with her three kids. She resents the fact that her tax dollars are being spent on fatties. She resents that fact that fat models are being put in the spotlight but short ones aren’t. She is all about TEHHEALTHZ. Fat is unhealthy OOGA BOOGA DEATHFATZ. I bet she doesn’t care about people who get injured playing sport and such up her tax dollars in hospital treatment (ever been in a country hospital’s ER on a Saturday during the Aussie football season?!) and I bet she doesn’t begrudge car accident victims their medical treatment. Both sport and travelling in a motor vehicle are activities done by CHOICE. Even if being fat was a choice (which for most fatties, it isn’t) isn’t it a bit odd that it is ok to choose to do other activities that cause accident and injury but not to be fat. Where is the logic in that??? Don’t worry, I know there is no logic in it. None at all. It is purely a case of more hate the fatties rhetoric. Don’t Susie and Kyle get that we have heard all this before? We have heard the blah blah blah about tax dollars and plus size clothing and FA enabling people to stay fat. We have heard the concentration camp thing too many damn times already. You are not saying anything new, interesting or original here people. Please come back when you actually have something to say that we haven’t all heard before. At least then I will have something more interesting to write about…

Ugh. Susie O’Brien just seems ignorant to me.
[People] do not need any encouragement or permission from role models in the media to put on weight.
Um, yeah, but we also don’t need to be shamed or made to feel bad about gaining weight. It happens.
I also like her outright rejection of fat having any protective value. God forbid being fat have some benefits!
Sandilands, on the other hand, is a pathetic douchebag .
I like that Kyle has conveniently overlooked the fact that he is fat…
Heh yeah my head exploded when I saw Susie’s post too – in fact I’m halfway through my own post about it.
I would seriously love to sit someone like that down and have a rational conversation with them about this, but I doubt they’re capable. She’d probably just stick her fingers in her ears and go *la la la*
But seriously – why are people like this even given a platform? Its ridiculous.
I blogged on Susie O’Brien’s article last night too. Personally I believe that she is so full of self loathing that she has to cast that in the direction of those who have the thing she loathes most about herself… fat.
I also think her cloaking this self loathing in false concern for the health of Australians is pathetic.
The other person, I refuse to acknowledge exists. If we ignore it long enough it will fade away.
@Frances – you know, that never even occured to me. But I’m with Kath… I’m hoping he will go die in a ditch somewhere (is that uc-PC of me?)
But that whole concentration camp thing – UGH. Any time I hear that as an argument for why people shouldn’t be fat, I just want to yell “those people in the pictures ARE THE FAT ONES because the skinny ones ALL DIED”.
Plus… 5 second image Google gave me this. So to all those people who use this argument I say BITE ME.
They are both obnoxious. Thanks, Bri!
[...] this opinion piece has been flogged to death by my fellow fat antipodeans who have stomped down practically every sentence [...]
I am all talked out re: Susie and Kyle. All I can say in response to your commentary is…WORD.
Susie may be off the road, but at least she is not in the gutter like Kyle.
Once the advertisers start staying away from Kyle he will be dropped. Read how to do it here.

Holy crap, you’ve heard the concentration camp argument BEFORE?! Jesus. What’s wrong with people?
