Tai Chi to Beat Obesity

I admit that when I first read this headline I instantly had images of someone in a white pyjama like outfit running after a fatty with a big whip…maybe that just illustrates the weirdness of my mind but really…  I have nothing against Tai Chi, I used to do Tai Chi (a long time ago mind you). I can see how its meditative qualities might assist with stress management, depression, anxiety etc. And if those thing are contributing to someone binge eating etc (which some fat people do  but not all) then ok, maybe, just maybe, it could have an effect on an individual’s body mass. Otherwise… I’m not so sure. I am all for it as far as feeling better etc but as a means to lose weight…well I wouldn’t want something like Tai Chi to be the next weight loss fad. What do you think?

You Look Great, Have You Lost Weight?

vitty10 talks about how annoying it is when people make that comment to her now and her thoughts about it.

Brain Surgery to Lose Weight – there has to be an easier way!

Yeah, actually there already is an easier way. It is called Fat Acceptance. Check it out…

Fat? Just think yourself thin then!

More clap trap along the lines of The Secret. Enough said.

Soda Tax designed to ‘beat obesity’ goes down the gurgler.

A proposed tax for sugar based beverages isn’t gonna happen. As if it would have made one iota of difference to the ‘obesity epidemic’ anyway… can they prove all fatties drink soda and nothing but soda? Can they prove fatties drink more soda than thin people? Can they? Can they?

Many Overweight Teens Don’t Think They Are (Overweight)

Apparently this is a problem because ‘you can’t begin to treat issues unless one identifies that there is a problem in the first place’. Well duh. Of course you can’t. But maybe, just maybe, in this case the truth is that these kids *aren’t* really overweight in the first place (and over whose weight anyway??). We all know the BMI is flawed and it was never designed to be used for individuals. It sure as hell was never meant to be used for teenagers or those still growing. It still boggles my mind that people can’t make the connection between fat-hating and fat-shaming kids and the prevalence of eating disorders and general self hatred that abounds in our society. While Ashton makes some helpful comments later in the article, she still equates thin with good health and we know that is problematic at the best of times. She makes good suggestions for parents of ‘overweight or obese’ kids but the suggestions would be good for ANY child or young person, not just the fatties. So can we quit singleing out the fatties and work towards the wellbeing of ALL kids?

Hong Kong Warns Against Parasite Diets Amid Worm Advertising

Ah! The age-old intestinal worm diet makes a comeback! Not a good idea people. Truly. But then distention, vomiting, diarrhea and malnutrition are all so much more favorable than being fat, aren’t they?

Cut Off The Blood Supply to Fat Cells and Get Thin!

Does this bullsh*t ever stop? No… I didn’t think so.

  1. Ugh! I HATE Siebold! (The think yourself thin, guy.) He’s an idiot, a bigot, a open, willing fool! He allows himself to be stupid and hateful!

I really try not to hate anyone, but he’s almost worse than MeMe Roth… He loves to shame fat people, he loves to exert his power. I hope I come across him someday so I can happily kick him in the balls. Then I’ll tell him to THINK through the pain!

  2. What’s with with these people who take a crap, lose 5lbs and think they know the secret to all fat people?

And what about people who are both fat and fit?

    Sigmund Freud he is not.

  3. Consider yourself seconded, Lexie. I’d never encountered the guy before, but I have a hatred of that kind of thinking (I’ve heard your-thoughts-can-change-your-life followers blame the Asian tsunami on the ‘wrong thinking’ of its victims, f’rinstance). And, will someone tell this guy that putting on 40lb and losing it again isn’t the same as losing 40lb (or 100, or 200) when you’ve always been at that higher weight?

Also, re that blood vessel story: Fat is not a tumor. Fat is a healthy, normal tissue. I find the fact that it’s even being described in these terms disturbing.
